Project Overview
The City of Aspen is beginning construction on pedestrian safety improvements at the Cemetery Lane bus stop located near the intersection of Cemetery Lane, Snowbunny Lane, and Silver King Drive.
This project is designed to improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians and transit riders at one of the area's busiest bus stops. The intersection has experienced documented crashes, and community members consistently identified pedestrian safety and better intersection control as priorities during the city's public outreach process.
Following two neighborhood engagement events and the evaluation of several design concepts, the city developed a final design that reflects community feedback while improving safety for everyone using the intersection.
Project Improvements
Construction will include:
Installation of Rectangular Rapid Flash Beacons (RRFBs) to improve pedestrian visibility
Construction of concrete pedestrian refuge islands to shorten crossing distances
Installation of new guardrail
Additional concrete improvements to improve pedestrian access and safety
Construction Schedule
Construction is anticipated to begin August 10, 2026 and continue through October, weather and field conditions permitting.
Traffic, Access and Bus Impacts
Residents, commuters, pedestrians, and transit riders should expect temporary traffic changes throughout construction.
Vehicle Access
Cemetery Lane will operate as one-way alternating traffic for most of the project
Temporary traffic signals will direct traffic through the work zone
North Snowbunny Lane will be closed at Cemetery Lane during construction
Residential driveways will remain accessible throughout the project
Transit & Trail Users
Temporary impacts to the RFTA bus stop should be expected. The bus stop will be moved a both south to Sierra Vista
The adjacent trail may experience temporary detours or minor disruptions while work is underway
