We need to support locals

Aspen has very little opportunity for locals here to socialize and meet with freinds for an inexpensive dinner or lunch. If this is not addressed soon, then most of the workers will be leaving for a better quality of life---which I see already happening. This will also give visitors a chance to experience others options than fine dining every night

As owner of Silverpeak Grill. I encourage the space to be used as a food court. But it should not be run by the city. The city can control the rent and pay for the build out and needed hvac.  A better use of the space would be to rent all year to farmers market craft fair vendors. By doing this and adding a food court it would create a great community space and shopping experience. The benifit would include year round business opportunities for local craftsman and gifts, the other benefit would be to greatly reduce the size of the farmers market to just E. Hopkins ave. This would free up 100 plus parking spaces on Saturdays for other businesses to benifit. The other solution to consider to generate more city sales taxes from retailers and ski Corp would be free parking on Saturdays and Sundays. Remember reducing the rent doesn't necessarily mean lower prices on food. The cost of utilities, insurance, waste, gas and especially labor costs add greatly to the cost of providing food at an affordable price.
