It’s time to design a facilities master plan for one of Aspen’s best local recreation hubs. The Aspen Golf Club, Golf, Tennis and Nordic facilities are due for some love after decades of use. All the people and activities at this location have served Aspen well over the last 25 years. But all that use (and love) over the years has taken its toll. Moreover, the popularity of the activities here have exceeded the space and back-of-the-house operations, putting pressure on the infrastructure and the amenities.

The Aspen Parks and Recreation Department has contracted with DTJ Design to begin work on an Aspen Golf Club Facilities Master Plan, which will create a roadmap for the future and allow new investment in the building and the surrounding facilities/activities that make it such a gem. We are inviting you to help as we begin the public process to gather input from users, employees, recreators, and all stakeholders.

The design team and the city's parks department are scheduled to present redevelopment options to Aspen City Council at a work session on Monday, May 4 at 4 p.m. in council chambers, located on the third floor of City Hall, 427 Rio Grande Place.

Your input is critical as we move forward with this exciting redesign and rethinking what we want from the Aspen Golf Club campus and the activities it supports.

Thanks to the more than 500 people who responded to the community-wide survey survey that was open from March 1-31. We appreciate you taking the time to share your input. The survey was designed to understand what is working, what is not, and what should be prioritized as we plan for the next generation of golf, tennis, Nordic, and community amenities.

The results of that survey were shared at a community meeting on Wednesday, April 22, as well as a presentation from DTJ Design on preliminary concepts and give tours of the facility by city staff. Roughly 50 people attended and provided additional input.

Your perspective will help shape the long-term vision for the campus — its layout, operations, and the types of improvements that matter most.

If you have not visited the Aspen Golf Club recently, we invite you to stop by, walk the facilities, have lunch or dinner at the restaurant, and then share your impressions — what worked, how your experience felt, and what you would like to see in the future. As part of this process, the golf course itself is not changing; the focus of the master plan will remain on the facilities for golf, tennis and Nordic activities.

Project goals

  1. Increase operational efficiency across the entire campus.
  2. Provide a higher level of service and expand programming to keep users at the facility longer.
  3. Reduce carbon emissions and identify opportunities for increased energy usage efficiencies.
  4. Provide adequate workspaces for the golf, junior golf, Nordic and tennis staff, the restaurant, and other facility lease holders.
  5. Design and build a master plan for the next 50 years.
