Here’s the thing about climate change (which is real, and real scary):

We’ve got to do what we can, and we’ve got to do it now.

The good news is that there is a lot we can do to preserve this place that we know and love. Some of it is small stuff we can do on our own—simple acts like recycling and composting, taking the bus and a shorter shower, and doubling down on home insulation. But -there are bigger things we must do together as a community! Like running our electrical grid on 100% renewables (check!), erecting buildings that are 100% electric and more efficient (most of a check!), and reducing our emissions by 100% in the next 25 years (we’re all working on it!).

What is Commit to Tomorrow?

Commit to Tommorrow is a city of Aspen initiative aimed to educate local residents about how they can live more sustainably, and highlighting local sustainability champions and how their efforts contribute to preserving Aspen's environment. For October, we are focusing on all things energy - everything from local businesses are upgrading their energy systems, or the city of Aspen's 100% renewable grid! Energy efficiency is at the heart of creating a resilient, low-impact community. From upgrading appliances and lighting to adopting all-electric buildings, these efforts help reduce emissions, lower costs, and protect the natural beauty that makes Aspen unique. This month, we’re celebrating the people and projects making clean, smart energy a reality—showing that every small change adds up to a brighter, greener tomorrow.

We want to hear from you!

We want to hear from you! Are you a sustainability champion who takes action every day—whether it’s biking to work, reducing single-use plastics, composting food scraps, or shopping locally? We know there are individuals in our community making thoughtful choices for a healthier planet, and we want to celebrate your efforts. Help us build a greener, more resilient future together!

Your story can inspire others to take action, too. No act is too small—every step counts.

Meet Konner Syed: local sustainability champion!

Konner received more than $20,000 in a mix of state, federal, and even Costco funding incentives to purchase his new electric vehicle (EV). The funding made it possible for him to choose a car that supports his environmental values while still being reliable, functional, and affordable.

His EV handles the commute from Redstone to Aspen, hauling river gear for weekend paddles, and family trips to the Front Range—without needing to think twice about charging thanks to a solid network of public chargers across the valley and state.

Commit to Tomorrow Spotlight: City of Aspen Electric Department

Aspen Electric deploys electric work trucks for daily work needed to keep the power on in Aspen. Line Technician Trinity Terry described how his electric truck only make his workday easier, providing a place to plug in tools at remote job sites, increased storage in the “frunk” (a front trunk where a gas engine would be), and a climate-controlled cab to keep his pup happy while on site. Federal and state funding also made this purchase one of the most affordable options for full sized work truck.

Electric work trucks aren’t just for electricians—they’re a smart choice for landscapers, contractors, and more, offering the same power and utility with lower maintenance costs and emissions

Commit to Tomorrow Local Spotlight: Tim Karfs

In an effort to celebrate Earth Month with action, Aspen local Tim Karfs helped his pals give their leftovers a second chance by gifting them a composting service.

This means that three more people in Aspen are keeping organic waste (30% of trash!) out of the landfill - reducing methane emissions and helping Aspen stay clean and beautiful.
